An Island Oasis in Yarmouth
Set at the far end of a sandy island off of South Yarmouth is a home designed with gathering in mind. A landscape designed with the same goal complements it perfectly.
There are few remaining places that are so secluded that GPS proves somewhat useless in finding them – such is the case with this grand island home. One must pass through a gatehouse and down a long sandy lane, with the ocean practically close enough to touch to one side, before reaching the recently completed property.
On the front side of the home, landscaping elements were kept to a minimum, allowing the Shingle-style house, replete with a two-story turret, to take center stage. A large circular driveway is able to accommodate frequent weekend guests. A lush green lawn is accented with native plantings, kept primarily to the foundation beds.
At the back of the home, overlooking Lewis Bay where each sunset seems better than its predecessor, is an oversized terrace with all the elements needed for summer entertaining and family gatherings.
Just off the back of the house is a covered terrace arranged with comfortable furnishings. Down three steps is the lower terrace, which is much larger and includes an oversized spa and an outdoor kitchen, surrounded by a stone wall with a bluestone top that accommodates several barstools. At the farthest end of the terrace, closest to the water, is a large firepit. Beyond the terrace is a long sandy path that ends at water’s edge.
With landscaping that includes all the elements of a resort hotel, our clients can experience the epitome of indulgent outdoor living without ever leaving home.
