This home is set close to the street on a steeply-sloped lot and is quite close to its neighbors. In the front of the home, we installed a series of stone retaining walls. The lower level, closest to the street, contains a raised flowerbed filled with a variety of brightly-colored blooms. The upper tier provides the front of the yard with a much-needed bit of level space. The small backyard was flanked on either side by mature deciduous trees which were left in place for shade and privacy. We added a bluestone terrace – with a fire pit as its centerpiece – that’s large enough for seating for several people, and devoted the remainder of the backyard to a lush, green lawn. A curved stone wall, with a bluestone cap, offers visual interest and additional seating.
